Java
A high-level, object-oriented programming language designed for cross-platform compatibility. Java is an excellent language for creating small programs for the web.

Java applets
Java applets are small programs written in the Java programming language. These applets can be easily embedded in web pages and are downloaded onto users' PCs to be run from there. Java applets differ from full-blown Java applications in that they are restricted in the types of actions they can perform on the user's PC.

Javascript
Javascript is a scripting language that should not be confused with the Java programming language. Javascript is not a real programming language and is mainly used to perform small, simple tasks for webpages where Javascript code is embedded.
